JS Group partners with Save the Student to launch new bursary supporting students from low-income backgrounds

JS Group is proud to announce a new partnership with Save the Student – the UK’s leading student money website – to launch the first ever Save the Student Bursary, designed to help new university students from low-income and disadvantaged backgrounds access the essentials they need to start their higher education journey.

With over 38% of students recently reporting that financial worries have made them consider dropping out of university*, this timely initiative provides vital early support to those who need it most.

Through our award winning Aspire platform, we’re delivering six bursary awards of £750 – a total of £4,500, funded jointly between Save the Student and JS Group. The bursary is open to prospective undergraduate students starting university in the 2025/26 academic year, with a household income of £40,000 or less.

Our Chairman and CEO, Peter Gray, commented:

“At JS Group, we are proud to support this exciting bursary in partnership with Save the Student

Our mission has always been to empower students and help deliver targeted financial support that truly makes a difference. By contributing to this bursary and delivering it through our Aspire solution, we ensure that support reaches students quickly, securely, and with purpose.

We are particularly excited to collaborate with Save the Student, a trusted voice for students across the UK, as together we can amplify the impact of this initiative and help more students access the support they need to thrive.

We believe that financial support, when delivered effectively, can transform lives and improve student outcomes, and we are committed to helping the next generation succeed from the very start of their university journey.”

Tom Allingham, Save the Student’s money expert, said:

“We’re delighted to launch the Save the Student Bursary, helping new students buy the equipment they need to make the most of their university experience.

At Save the Student, we’ve spent almost 20 years helping people make ends meet at university. But this is currently one of the most financially challenging times to pursue higher education, with our latest National Student Money Survey finding that 38% of respondents had considered dropping out due to money worries.

So, as the UK’s number one student money website, it feels only right that we try to get ahead of this by awarding our first ever bursary to new starters.

Special thanks must go to JS Group too, who have been incredibly generous in donating not just their money and service, but also their decades of expertise.

We’re all incredibly excited to finally launch the Save the Student Bursary, and can’t wait to start receiving applications.”

Applicants can use the funding towards essential start-of-term purchases, including laptops, kitchenware, bedding, and subject-specific equipment – items that can make all the difference to feeling prepared and confident when starting university.

Applications open on Tuesday 29th April and will close on Friday 20th June.
