JS Group is proud to be partnering once again with Save the Student, the UK’s leading student money website, to relaunch the Save the Student Bursary, designed to help new university students from low-income and disadvantaged backgrounds access the essentials they need to start their higher education journey.
Following the success of last year’s initiative, the bursary returns at a time when financial pressures continue to shape the student experience. With over 38% of students reporting that financial worries have made them consider dropping out of university*, this initiative provides vital early support to those who need it most.
Through our Aspire platform, we’re delivering six bursary awards of £750, a total of £4,500, funded jointly between Save the Student and JS Group. The bursary is open to prospective undergraduate students starting university in the 2026/27 academic year, with a household income of £40,000 or less.
Our Chairman and CEO, Peter Gray, commented:
At JS Group, we are proud to continue our partnership with Save the Student to deliver this important bursary.
Our focus is on ensuring financial support reaches students quickly, securely, and in a way that has meaningful impact. By delivering this initiative through Aspire, we enable timely, accountable support that helps students feel prepared and confident as they begin university.
Working alongside Save the Student allows us to extend the reach of this support and continue making a difference where it matters most.”
Tom Allingham, Save the Student’s money expert, said:
We're delighted to once again partner with JS Group to run the Save the Student Bursary for a second year.
Last year, we were overwhelmed by the number of applications, and by the positive feedback from the six recipients. Running our own bursary was something we'd discussed for many years, and to see the real-world impact it had was humbling.
Since then, our latest National Student Money Survey found that the average monthly shortfall between loans and living costs was over £500 per month, and that parental contributions have fallen year-on-year. Sadly, it's clear that students will face financial challenges at some point in their studies – so we're glad we can help new starters afford some of their uni essentials and ease that burden.
We're also extremely grateful to JS Group for offering their time and funding to help maximise the reach of this scheme. We can't wait to start receiving applications for this year's Save the Student Bursary."
Applicants can use the funding towards essential start-of-term purchases, including laptops, kitchenware, bedding, and subject-specific equipment, items that can make all the difference to feeling prepared and confident when starting university.
Applications Open on Tuesday 22nd April
and will close on Friday 26th June
